The UN Comtrade series shows imports, not sales. It can be used as a proxy for sales but with caution. There are lags between imports and sales.Recent months are often incomplete because of reporting lags and revisions. Import-based estimates can materially understate or overstate true sales in countries with large domestic vehicle manufacturing, and can also be distorted in economies with high re-export or transshipment activity.
